- Which Jamaica destination is best for first-time visitors?
Negril and Montego Bay are the most-visited first stops. Negril delivers seven miles of white sand and the Rick's Cafe cliff scene at sunset. Montego Bay is the easiest to reach from MBJ and has the densest mix of resorts, restaurants, and the Hip Strip. Ocho Rios is the third popular pick — close to Dunn's River Falls and the cruise pier.
- How long is the drive from MBJ to each main resort zone?
Sangster International (MBJ) to Negril is ~75 minutes. MBJ to Rose Hall and Hip Strip is ~15-20 minutes. MBJ to Ocho Rios is ~90 minutes. MBJ to Falmouth is ~30 minutes. MBJ to Treasure Beach is ~2.5 hours.
- Can I split my stay across two destinations?
Yes — a popular pattern is 3-4 nights Negril for the beach, then 3-4 nights Ocho Rios for the waterfalls and tours.
- Are the south coast and east coast worth visiting?
If you've done the resort-strip trip before, yes. Treasure Beach (south coast) is the slow, fishing-village pace — Pelican Bar, Floyd's Pelican Bar, Lover's Leap. Port Antonio (east coast) is the lush jungle/Blue Lagoon scene that the Errol Flynn era built. Both are ~2-3 hours from MBJ.
- What's the best time of year to visit?
December-April is high season: dry, sunny, busy, and pricier. May-November is hurricane season — quieter, cheaper, and the rain typically passes through quickly. Late August-October is the peak risk window for storms; the rest of the wet season is generally still pleasant.
