The capital is a city break, not a resort week. New Kingston has the hotels, the embassies, and the restaurants that take a reservation. Downtown is the waterfront, the market energy, and a shorter visit. Port Royal is a separate morning across the spit: fort walls, a small museum, and fried fish.
Devon House is the easy introduction. Ice cream in the garden, then the gallery if it is open. The Bob Marley Museum needs its own morning. Do not stack it with the Blue Mountains. The mountain road is slow, fog is normal, and coffee farms close early. Treat the hills as a full date with someone who drives them often.
Hope Gardens is the shady walk when the downtown heat is too much. Emancipation Park is a dusk stroll, not a midnight one. Street food near the university is excellent and busy. Sit where other people are sitting. A quiet empty stall is not the one to test.
Traffic at rush hour is the real tax. A meeting at nine and a museum at ten is a fantasy. Leave a gap. Sunday morning is the kind hour for moving across town.
Cards are normal in New Kingston restaurants. Markets and many cookshops want notes. Pull some on arrival. Tap water in a hotel is usually filtered. Bottled is still the simple habit. A pharmacy on Knutsford Boulevard covers the usual needs.
Evenings in New Kingston are restaurants and hotel bars. Ask the desk which blocks they consider fine for a walk, then stay inside that advice. This is a working city. Dress for dinner if the room is formal. The museum does not care.
City morning, mountain another day
A paperback and a courtyard beat a third museum when the heat peaks. The city will still be there after four.
