About Lucea
Lucea is the capital of Hanover parish — a quiet harbour town with a fort, a clock tower donated by a German merchant who meant it for St. Lucia, and a waterfront that has barely changed in a century.
The Grand Palladium resort complex is the big draw on this stretch of coast, but Lucea itself is where you go for authentic Jamaican small-town life. The jerk chicken at the roadside stands here is legendary, and the fishing boats still come in at dawn with the day's catch.
Half Moon Beach is nearby — a crescent of sand accessible only by boat. Negril is 30 minutes west, Montego Bay 30 minutes east. Lucea is the quiet north coast that Jamaica was before tourism arrived.
