Duqm is an emerging city and port on the Arabian Sea coast of central Oman, in the Al Wusta region - once a quiet fishing area, now the site of a major special economic zone built around a large deep-water port, dry dock and industrial development. For travellers, Duqm is best known as a remote, up-and-coming coastal destination with long empty beaches, the striking Rock Garden of wind-sculpted formations, and access to the wild desert-meets-ocean scenery of Oman's central coast. The wider region offers wilderness attractions such as the pink lagoon and turtle beaches, the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary inland, and the dramatic cliffs and blowholes further along the coast. It is a place of open spaces and modern development rather than old-city charm, served by Duqm airport. The climate is hot and dry; the cooler months, roughly October to April, are the most comfortable for a visit.
