Downtown Ocho Rios, St. Ann
Shaw Park Botanical Gardens sits 550 feet above Ocho Rios in the Shaw Park hills -- a 25-acre hillside garden with a waterfall running through the centre, mature specimen trees, an extensive collection of Jamaican orchids, and a panoramic gazebo overlooking the Ocho Rios bay and the Caribbean beyond. The gardens have operated as a public attraction since the 1970s, and the combination of old-growth landscaping, the in-garden waterfall, and the ridgeline view makes Shaw Park one of the strongest half-day stops in St. Ann outside of Dunn's River.
The garden is organised around a looping main path that descends from the entrance to the waterfall, crosses at a footbridge, and returns along the ridge. Allow 90 minutes to two hours for a relaxed visit. The on-site bar and restaurant on the upper terrace serves a decent light lunch.
Drive time from OCJ is 20 minutes; from MBJ it is 2 hours. The Ochi Luxe Van is the preferred vehicle -- the climb to Shaw Park Road is steep and a smoother ride makes the final stretch more comfortable. Shaw Park visits are typically combined with Konoko Falls (five minutes further up the hill) and Dunn's River on a Half Day chauffeur at $800 for six hours in the right vehicle for your party.
