Downtown Ocho Rios, St. Ann
Ocho Rios Craft Market is the large open-air market at the foot of Main Street, two blocks back from the cruise terminal -- a three-aisle bazaar of wood carvings, reggae memorabilia, straw baskets, Rasta-colour textiles, jewelery, and local art that has anchored Ocho Rios shopping for more than 40 years. The layout is sprawling but manageable: the front stalls carry the entry-level souvenirs, the middle rows hold the more serious carvings (mahogany and lignum vitae), and the back of the market is where the vendors sell Jamaican rums, jerk spice kits, and Blue Mountain coffee.
Haggling is expected. A first offer of half the stated price is a reasonable starting point, and most negotiations settle around two-thirds of the original ask. The vendors are long-tenured and the craft quality is noticeably better than the dockside stalls at the cruise terminal.
Drive time from OCJ is 20 minutes; from MBJ it is 2 hours. The Ochi Luxe Van is the standard vehicle for the route. The craft market is typically combined with Island Village and Ocho Rios Bay Beach on a Quarter Day chauffeur at $450 for three hours in the right vehicle for your party. Compare tours and excursions for combined shopping and Ocho Rios circuit days, and find a nearby stay for bay-front resorts.
Cash works better than card. The vendors accept USD or JMD but prefer cash for the best negotiated prices.
