YIW is the airport code for Yiwu Airport, serving Yiwu, a city in central Zhejiang Province in eastern China, famous worldwide as the home of the largest wholesale market for small goods on earth. Yiwu International Trade City, often called the Futian Market, is a vast complex of tens of thousands of shops selling everything from toys and jewellery to tools and decorations, and much of the world's everyday manufactured goods passes through it, exported to over a hundred countries. The city has grown enormously on this trade, drawing merchants from across the globe, and is also a terminus of long-distance freight railways linking China with Europe. Yiwu is a modern commercial city rather than a scenic destination. It is reached by flights into its airport, about 300 kilometres from Shanghai, and by high-speed rail. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and cool winters.
