Quzhou is a historic city in the west of Zhejiang Province in eastern China, near the source of the Qiantang River, with a history stretching back some 1,800 years. It is best known as a centre of Confucian culture in southern China: its Southern Confucius Temple is one of only two principal family temples of Confucius in the world, alongside the one in Qufu, making Quzhou a kind of second home for the philosopher's descendants. Nearby rises Jianglang Mountain, or Mount Jianglang, famous for three dramatic rock peaks and listed as part of the China Danxia UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first natural World Heritage property in Zhejiang. The city and its countryside offer a mix of temples, gardens and striking Danxia scenery. Quzhou is reached by China's high-speed rail network and has an airport with domestic flights. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and cool winters.
