UVO is the airport code for the airstrip at Uvol, on the south coast of the island of New Britain, in the Pomio district of East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. It lies on a remote, thickly forested stretch of coast facing the Solomon Sea, in a region of villages, rivers, reef and rainforest, backed inland by the rugged Nakanai Mountains, a range of dramatic limestone karst, caves and rivers that is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. Uvol is a small local centre rather than a tourist destination, of interest for its remote setting and the forests and coast of southern New Britain. It is reached by small aircraft to its airstrip and by boat along the coast, with connections through the larger towns of the province. The climate is hot, humid and tropical, with very heavy rainfall.
