Aur Atoll is a remote coral atoll in the Ratak (sunrise) chain of the Marshall Islands, a ring of 42 small islands enclosing a vast lagoon in the central Pacific. With a land area of only around 15 square kilometres but a lagoon of some 600, it is home to a few hundred people living a traditional Marshallese life of fishing, copra and outer-island custom, far from the country's urban centre on Majuro. This is not a resort destination but an authentic outer-island experience: white-sand islets, an immense sheltered lagoon and a slow rhythm shaped by the sea. Access is the challenge - reached by inter-island boat or occasional light aircraft from Majuro - so any visit is arranged in advance and takes patience. The tropical climate is warm year-round, with a wetter season toward the middle and end of the year.
