Aiome is a small settlement in the Madang Province of Papua New Guinea, in the rugged interior of the country, in the middle Ramu river region beneath the mountain ranges. It is a remote patrol post and local centre for scattered villages in a landscape of rainforest, rivers, grassland and mountains, home to traditional communities well off the main routes. This is not a tourist destination and has minimal services, of interest mainly for its remote setting and cultures rather than any attractions. Aiome is reached chiefly by light aircraft to its airstrip and by rough tracks and river travel, and any journey here needs local arrangements and up-to-date advice. The climate is hot and humid, with heavy rainfall through much of the year, typical of the region between the coast and the highlands.
