The airport sits roughly fifteen minutes east of Ocho Rios and directly adjacent to the GoldenEye resort, where Ian Fleming wrote all fourteen James Bond novels between 1952 and 1964.
The airport primarily handles charter flights and smaller commercial aircraft. It is a world away from the scale and crowds of Sangster (MBJ) in Montego Bay. There are no duty-free shopping arcades, no food courts, and no long immigration queues. That is the point.

Ian Fleming purchased the GoldenEye property in 1946 and built a simple beach house where he would spend every January and February writing. The first Bond novel, Casino Royale, was written here in 1952. Over the next twelve years, Fleming wrote all fourteen Bond novels and several short stories at GoldenEye, drawing on Jamaica's landscape, characters, and culture for settings and inspiration.
The airport, renamed in Fleming's honour in 2011, leans into this heritage. It is a fitting gateway to a part of Jamaica that still feels like a well-kept secret.

Some visitors flying into MBJ on major commercial airlines choose to take a connecting charter flight to OCJ to avoid the longer road transfer from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios. If your final destination is Tower Isle, Oracabessa, or downtown Ocho Rios, this can save significant drive time.
