Route options
The standard route (A1 North Coast Highway) takes 1h 45m and passes through Falmouth, Runaway Bay, and Discovery Bay. The A1 is well-maintained and provides ocean views for most of the journey. An inland shortcut via the A3 shaves 15 minutes but loses the scenic coast β Aurum drivers default to the A1.
What you pass on the way
Falmouth (50 min from MBJ): Jamaica's best-preserved Georgian town and cruise port. Runaway Bay (1h 20m): where Columbus first landed β calm bay, excellent diving. Discovery Bay (1h 30m): Columbus Park and the first point of contact between Europe and Jamaica. Dunn's River Falls: 5 minutes past Ocho Rios town.
Ocho Rios overview
Ocho Rios (Ochi) is Jamaica's busiest resort town and cruise port. Dunn's River Falls is the signature attraction β terraced waterfalls you climb with a chain of other visitors. Mystic Mountain, Dolphin Cove, and Blue Hole are nearby. The town beach is free and popular with locals.
Alternative: fly into OCJ
Ian Fleming Airport (OCJ) is 40 minutes from Ocho Rios and significantly closer than MBJ. If your airline flies into OCJ, consider it β the transfer is shorter and cheaper ($95 from OCJ vs $195 from MBJ).
