Option 1: Private transfer ($275+, 1h 50min)
A private Aurum Transfers vehicle collects you inside MBJ arrivals with a name board, loads your luggage, and drives directly to Negril β no stops, no other passengers. Starlink WiFi active throughout. Price covers the vehicle regardless of group size. Most popular choice for couples and families.
Option 2: Shared shuttle ($45-65 per person, 2.5-3h)
Shared shuttle operators run minibuses between MBJ and Negril with multiple pickups and drop-offs. Cost is around $45-65 per person. Significant time overhead β plan for 2.5-3 hours minimum. Limited luggage space. Must book in advance.
Option 3: Public bus (from town, $5, 2+ hours)
JUTC and route taxis connect Montego Bay town centre to Negril for about $5. However, there is no direct bus from the airport β you would first need a taxi to town. Total journey time is 3+ hours with waits. Not recommended for tourists with luggage arriving at the airport.
Option 4: Rental car ($80-150/day)
Car rental is available at MBJ from all major companies. Driving to Negril takes about 1h 45m via the A1. Jamaica drives on the left. Road conditions vary β the A1 coastal highway is well-maintained but the mountain shortcut through Savanna-la-Mar can be challenging. Parking is available at all Negril resorts.
The A1 coastal highway
The main route from MBJ to Negril follows the A1 along Jamaica's north and west coast. This is one of Jamaica's most scenic drives β ocean views most of the way, with the Blue Mountains visible inland. Your Aurum driver knows every stop and can point out landmarks en route.
