Wuvulu Island is a small, remote island in the far northwest of Papua New Guinea, in the Western Islands of Manus Province, lying alone in the Bismarck Sea north of the New Guinea mainland. It is a low coral island, ringed by reef and known for exceptionally clear water and superb, unspoiled diving and snorkelling, with steep drop-offs and abundant marine life, drawing the occasional dedicated diver despite its great isolation. The small community here has its own language and traditions, and the island has few services. Wuvulu is very remote and rarely visited, of interest for its pristine reef and traditional life rather than any resort. It is reached only with difficulty, by small aircraft to its airstrip and by boat over long distances, so any visit needs careful arrangement. The climate is hot, humid and tropical, with a wetter season and a risk of storms.
