TPU is the airport code for Tikapur Airport, serving Tikapur, a town in the far west of Nepal, in the Kailali district of Sudurpashchim province, on the banks of the great Karnali river. Tikapur is one of the main towns of the far-western plains and is best known for the Tikapur Park, a large and beautiful garden laid out in the time of King Mahendra and often called one of the finest parks in Nepal. It lies in the flat, fertile Terai lowland, in a region that is home to many of the Tharu people, with their distinctive culture and villages. Tikapur Airport reopened in recent years after long being closed, once again linking this remote corner of the country by air. Tikapur is reached by flights from Kathmandu into its airport and by long roads across the plains of the far west. The climate is hot on the plains, with a hot season, a monsoon and a mild winter.
