Pimaga is a small settlement in the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, serving as a local government centre for the Lake Kutubu area, in the country's rugged and remote interior. Its main point of interest is nearby Lake Kutubu, the second-largest lake in Papua New Guinea and its largest upland lake, lying at around 800 metres among forested hills. Kutubu is a place of great natural beauty and biodiversity, a wetland of international importance, and it is the setting for the traditional Kutubu Kundu and Digaso Festival, which celebrates local highland cultures. This is a very off-the-beaten-track destination. Travelers usually fly into the region through airports such as Moro or Mendi and continue by road, and any visit needs local arrangements and current advice on conditions. The climate is warm and wet, typical of the highlands, with heavy rainfall through much of the year.
