## Getting to Khujirt
The journey starts in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital, from which Khujirt is reached by road on tours, by bus, or with a hired driver; the town also has a small airstrip used seasonally. The road as far as Kharkhorin is paved, and the stretch onward to Khujirt is also sealed, but beyond the town, routes into the deeper Orkhon Valley and to the waterfall run on unpaved, bumpy steppe tracks where a four-wheel drive and a driver who knows the valley earn their keep.

Khujirt has grown into a genuine resort town, with a sanatorium, hotels, and ger camps built around its warm mineral springs, used for therapeutic bathing. It sits inside the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape, listed by UNESCO in 2004 as the cradle of nomadic Mongolia. From Khujirt the classic excursions are the Orkhon Waterfall, the Mogoit hot springs that bubble out of a wooded valley about ten kilometres south of the waterfall at up to 72 degrees Celsius, and Kharkhorin with the Erdene Zuu monastery, built on the site of the ancient Mongol capital of Karakorum.
