Once in Osaka, the city's extensive subway and train network covers sightseeing needs well, and most visitors do not need a car for city exploration, though travelers planning onward road trips into the wider Kansai or Chugoku regions should note that Japan drives on the left and that a valid International Driving Permit, issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, is generally required alongside a home country license to rent and drive legally.
