Enfidha is a town on the coast of northeastern Tunisia, best known today for the large Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport, which serves the popular Mediterranean beach resorts of the region. The airport was built to handle holiday traffic to the nearby resort towns, above all Hammamet and Sousse, which lie along this stretch of the Tunisian coast and draw sun-seeking visitors to their beaches, hotels and historic medinas. The region combines warm Mediterranean beaches with the culture and history of Tunisia, from the old walled towns to the country's Roman and Islamic heritage, with the capital Tunis and the ancient site of Carthage also within reach. Enfidha itself is a modest town, its importance mainly as the gateway airport. It is reached by its airport and by road and rail along the coast. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters.
