CXN is the airport code for Candala, also spelled Qandala, a small coastal town in the northeast of Somalia, in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland, on the Gulf of Aden. It lies on a remote stretch of the Somali coast, backed by the dramatic Cal Madow mountains, in an arid region of fishing villages, ancient trading history and rugged scenery where the mountains meet the sea. This is not a tourist destination, and much of Somalia is considered high-risk for travel, so it is essential to check your government's current advice, which for many countries strongly warns against travel here. Candala is a small local port and centre rather than a developed town. It is reached by a local airstrip and by rough coastal roads within Puntland. The climate is hot and dry, with high coastal humidity and very little rain for most of the year.
