Zemio is a town in the southeast of the Central African Republic, in the remote Haut-Mbomou prefecture, near the borders with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. It lies in a distant region of forest, savanna and rivers, one of the most isolated parts of an already remote country, far from the capital, Bangui, along very poor roads. Zemio is a modest local centre whose people live by farming, fishing and hunting. However, the region has been severely affected by conflict and armed-group violence, and the security situation is extremely dangerous; movement is heavily restricted and humanitarian access is limited. It is essential to rely on current official advice, which is very likely to warn against all travel to this area. Zemio is reached only with difficulty, by rough roads and small aircraft. The climate is tropical, with a hot dry season and a heavy wet season.
