XSC is the airport code for South Caicos Airport, on the island of South Caicos in the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Atlantic near the Caribbean. South Caicos, sometimes called Big South, is one of the quieter, less-developed islands of the group, once the centre of a thriving salt industry, whose old salinas, or salt ponds, and historic buildings still shape the main settlement of Cockburn Harbour. Today it is prized for its unspoiled feel and its superb diving and snorkelling, with dramatic wall dives along the edge of a deep ocean trench, as well as excellent bonefishing in the shallows. The surrounding waters are rich with marine life. South Caicos is reached by short domestic flights to its airport from Providenciales, the territory's main hub. The climate is warm and tropical year-round, with a hurricane season in the second half of the year.
