VIJ is the airport code for Virgin Gorda Airport, on the island of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, in the eastern Caribbean. Virgin Gorda is one of the most beautiful of the British Virgin Islands, famous above all for The Baths, a beach where giant granite boulders form sheltered pools, grottoes and passages beside turquoise water, one of the Caribbean's most photographed sights. The island also has lovely beaches, the yachting haven of North Sound with its resorts and marinas, and the main village of Spanish Town. It is a favourite of the sailing and superyacht crowd cruising these sheltered waters. On the island, visitors get around by taxi and hire car. Virgin Gorda is reached by short flights to its small airport and, very commonly, by ferry from Tortola and neighbouring islands. The climate is warm and tropical, with a hurricane season in the second half of the year.
