TKB is the airport code for Tekadu, a small airstrip and settlement in the interior of Papua New Guinea, in a remote, rugged part of the country between the Gulf and Morobe regions. It lies in isolated, forested mountain-and-lowland country, a local centre for scattered villages, in an area historically linked to small-scale gold mining and now very much off the main routes. This is not a tourist destination and has minimal services, of interest mainly for its remoteness and the traditional life of the region rather than any attractions. Tekadu is reached chiefly by light aircraft to its airstrip, weather permitting, as there are no roads to speak of, and any journey here needs local arrangements. The climate is hot, humid and very wet, with heavy rainfall for much of the year, typical of this part of Papua New Guinea.
