SVD is the airport code for Argyle International Airport, the main gateway to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in the eastern Caribbean. Opened in 2017 on the main island of Saint Vincent, it replaced the older E. T. Joshua Airport and handles the country's international flights, close to the capital, Kingstown. Saint Vincent is a lush, mountainous, volcanic island crowned by the active La Soufriere volcano, which last erupted in 2021, with rainforest, waterfalls and black-sand beaches. The airport is also the springboard to the Grenadines, smaller islands such as Bequia, Mustique, Canouan and Union Island, famed for yachting and quiet beaches. Argyle is reached by regional and some longer-haul flights, with onward ferries and light aircraft to the Grenadines. The climate is tropical, driest in the early months of the year.
