SUH is the airport code for Sur, a historic coastal city in the northeast of Oman, on the Gulf of Oman where the coast meets the Arabian Sea. Sur has a long and proud maritime history as one of Arabia's great seafaring and dhow-building centres, and traditional wooden dhows are still built here by hand in its boatyards, a craft that draws visitors to the waterfront. The city has a handsome corniche, old watchtowers, lighthouses and the twin-town setting around its lagoon and harbour. Nearby, at Ras al-Jinz, is a famous turtle reserve where green turtles come ashore to nest, one of the region's great wildlife spectacles, and the dramatic Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi lie along the coast toward Muscat. Sur is reached by road along the coast from Muscat and by its airport. The climate is hot and dry, hottest in summer and pleasantly warm in winter.
