RTB is the airport code for Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport, the gateway to Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, in the Caribbean Sea off the country's northern coast. Roatan is a long, green island famous above all for its diving and snorkelling, for it lies on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef system in the world, with dive sites just minutes from shore. The main tourist centres are West End, a relaxed village of dive shops and cafes, and West Bay, with its beautiful beach and resorts. Roatan is also a popular cruise stop, with ships calling at Coxen Hole and Mahogany Bay. Roatan is reached by flights into its airport, from the Honduran mainland, the United States and elsewhere, and by ferry from the mainland. The climate is warm and tropical, cooled by the trade winds, with a wetter season later in the year.
