Qionghai is a city on the east coast of Hainan, China's tropical island province in the South China Sea, at the mouth of the Wanquan River. Its best-known place is the coastal town of Bo'ao, the permanent home of the Boao Forum for Asia, a major international gathering often compared to Davos, set on islands where the Wanquan River meets the sea. The area is known for its river-and-sea scenery, including the long Yudai, or Jade Belt, Beach, a narrow peninsula separating fresh water from the ocean, as well as local dishes such as Jiaji duck. Qionghai lies on Hainan's east-coast high-speed railway, and while it is not served by its own major airport, it is within easy reach of the airports at Haikou to the north and Sanya to the south. The climate is tropical, warm year-round, with a wetter season in the second half of the year.
