Puerto Barrios is a port city on the Caribbean coast of Guatemala, the capital of the Izabal department, set on the Bay of Amatique in the Gulf of Honduras. It is Guatemala's main Caribbean port and has a distinctive Afro-Caribbean and Garifuna character, with Maya and West Indian influences, quite different from the highlands.
