Parasi is a small settlement on the coast of Malaita, the most populous island of the Solomon Islands, in the South Pacific. It lies in a rural, coastal area of the island, a landscape of villages, gardens, forest and reef, home to communities of Malaita, an island known for its strong traditional cultures and, in places, its distinctive shell-money and artificial islands built on the lagoons. Parasi is a modest local centre rather than a tourist destination, of interest for its remote island setting and traditional way of life rather than any developed attractions. It is reached by boat along the coast of Malaita and by road and local airstrips in the region, with connections through the provincial centre of Auki and the national capital, Honiara, on nearby Guadalcanal. The climate is hot, humid and tropical, with heavy rainfall for much of the year.
