OYE is the airport code for Oyem, a town in the north of Gabon, in Central Africa, the capital of the Woleu-Ntem Province, in the forested interior near the borders with Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Oyem is the main town of Gabon's densely forested northern region, set in the equatorial rainforest that covers much of the country, and is home largely to the Fang people, the country's largest ethnic group. It is a regional market and administrative centre in a region of cocoa and other crops, surrounded by the great forests, rather than a developed tourist destination. Gabon as a whole is known for its remarkable rainforest and wildlife, including its national parks. Oyem is reached by flights into its airport, from the capital Libreville, and by road through the forest. The climate is hot, humid and equatorial, with heavy rainfall for much of the year.
