NVI is the airport code for Navoi International Airport, serving Navoi, an industrial city in the central part of Uzbekistan, in Central Asia, in the Kyzylkum desert region between the historic cities of Bukhara and Samarkand. Navoi is a relatively modern, planned city, founded in the Soviet era as a strategic industrial centre, with important mining, metals, chemical and power industries. In recent years its airport has become a major international air-cargo and logistics hub, with a long runway and a large freight terminal, positioned to handle transit cargo between Europe and Asia along the routes of the old Silk Road. The wider region is close to some of the greatest cities of Central Asia. Navoi is reached by flights into its airport and by road and rail across Uzbekistan. The climate is continental and dry, with very hot summers and cold winters.
