NNI is an airport code associated with Namutoni, the historic eastern rest camp and entry point of Etosha National Park, one of Africa's great wildlife reserves in northern Namibia. Namutoni is centred on a striking whitewashed fort, originally built by German colonial forces around the turn of the 20th century and later restored, overlooking the fringes of the vast Etosha salt pan. From here, visitors explore the eastern side of the park, where floodlit and natural waterholes draw elephant, giraffe, zebra, springbok, lion and black rhino, especially in the dry season. Namutoni is reached by road through the park's eastern gate or by light aircraft to nearby airstrips, with the main routes from Windhoek and Tsumeb. The dry season from around May to October is best for wildlife viewing.
