NMC is the airport code for Norman's Cay, a small and beautiful private island in the Exumas, a chain of cays in the central Bahamas famous for their clear turquoise water. Today Norman's Cay is a quiet, upmarket island of white-sand beaches and sheltered anchorages, but it is best known for a colourful and notorious past: in the late 1970s and early 1980s it was used as a base by drug smugglers, before being reclaimed.
