Monkey Mountain, also known as Wandike, is a remote Indigenous village in the Potaro-Siparuni region of Guyana, set high in the North Pakaraima Mountains at about 520 metres near the Brazilian border. It takes its name from the nearby mountain and the seasonal movement of monkeys through the surrounding hills. The village is home to the Patamona and Macushi peoples, many of whom speak several languages, and it sits in a landscape of forested highlands and savanna far from Guyana's coast. This is a deeply rural community rather than a tourist resort, with a school, health centre and small services, and it hosts the North Pakaraima Exposition, a gathering of Indigenous communities with exhibits and sport. Monkey Mountain is reached mainly by small aircraft to its airstrip or by long, rough interior tracks. The climate is warm, with heavy rains for much of the year.
