MKH is the airport code for Mokhotlong Airport, serving Mokhotlong, the only town in the mountainous Mokhotlong district in the far northeast of Lesotho, high in the Maloti Mountains of southern Africa. It is a remote highland town, set at over 2,000 metres above sea level, near the source of the Senqu river, the largest river in Lesotho, in a spectacular landscape of high peaks, deep valleys and open moorland. Mokhotlong is the first main town with an airport along the mountain road that climbs from South Africa over the famous Sani Pass, and it is a base for exploring the roof of southern Africa, near Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest peak on the subcontinent. Mokhotlong is reached by small aircraft and by mountain roads over high passes, so travel needs planning. The climate is a cool highland one, with warm summers and cold, dry winters that can bring snow.
