MDV is the airport code for Medouneu, a small town in the far north of Gabon, in Central Africa, the capital of the Haut-Ntem department in Woleu-Ntem, the country's northernmost province. Medouneu lies in a green, hilly region of equatorial forest near the border with Equatorial Guinea, in a remote corner of Gabon far from the coast and the capital, Libreville. It is a modest local administrative and market centre rather than a tourist destination, set among the forests, villages and cocoa-growing country of the north, home to Fang communities. The wider Woleu-Ntem is a forested upland province bordering Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Congo. Medouneu is reached by road through the forest and by its small airport, over long distances from the main cities. The climate is equatorial, hot and humid, with heavy rainfall for much of the year.
