MDB is the airport code for the airport serving Dangriga, a town on the Caribbean coast of southern Belize, in the Stann Creek district, at the mouth of the North Stann Creek river. Sometimes known by the name of the nearby Melinda area, the airport is the main air gateway to this part of the coast. Dangriga is often called the cultural capital of the Garifuna people, an Afro-indigenous community with their own language, music and drumming, and the town is famous for its lively drumming and its punta music. The wider Stann Creek district is a gateway to some of the finest nature in Belize, including the beach village of Hopkins and the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, a rainforest reserve famous for its jaguars. Dangriga is reached by short flights from Belize City into its airport and by coastal road. The climate is hot, humid and tropical, with a long rainy season.
