LPM is the airport code for Lamap Airport, in the south of Malekula, the second-largest island in the Pacific nation of Vanuatu. Malekula is one of the most culturally rich islands in the country, famous for its living traditions, and Lamap, in the southeast, is one of its gateways. The island is home to peoples known as the Big Nambas and the Small Nambas, whose custom villages preserve ancient Melanesian traditions, from ceremonial dances and pig ceremonies to the delicate art of sand drawing. Around its coasts and reefs there is fine diving and snorkelling, and the interior is a rugged land of rainforest and rivers. Malekula is a place for those drawn to authentic culture and unspoilt nature. Lamap is reached by small aircraft on short flights from the Vanuatu capital, Port Vila, into its airstrip, and by boat. The climate is warm, humid and tropical, cooled by the sea.
