Long Banga is a small, remote highland settlement in the interior of Sarawak, in Malaysian Borneo, in the upper reaches of the Baram river, near the border with Indonesian Kalimantan. It lies deep in the mountainous, forested highlands of northern Borneo, in a cool upland region far from the coast, home to the Saban people along with Kenyah and Kelabit communities, who keep strong traditional cultures. Long Banga is reached by a short-take-off airstrip, first built in the 1960s, a lifeline for the isolated community, and the area is increasingly known for its highland coffee. It is a quiet, off-the-beaten-track place of forest, rivers and village life, near the famous Kelabit Highlands. Long Banga is reached by small aircraft from Miri on the coast, and by long, rough logging roads. The climate is tropical but pleasantly cool for Borneo thanks to the altitude, with heavy rainfall.
