Lianyungang is a port city on the coast of Jiangsu Province in eastern China, on the Yellow Sea, at the point where the north China plain meets the sea. It is a significant seaport and an eastern starting point of major trade and rail routes across China and Eurasia, a modern industrial and commercial city. For visitors, Lianyungang is known above all for Mount Yuntai, the green mountain on its edge, famous in Chinese culture as an inspiration for the classic novel Journey to the West and its Monkey King, with temples, forests and the Huaguo Shan, or Flower-Fruit Mountain, associated with the legend. The city also has beaches and coastal scenery. Lianyungang is reached by flights into its airport, by high-speed rail, and by road and sea.
