Lekhwair is a remote desert location in the interior of Oman, in the north of the country, in the Al Dhahirah region near the border with the United Arab Emirates. It lies in the arid, sparsely populated desert of the Omani interior, an area associated above all with the oil and gas industry, as Lekhwair is the name of a significant oilfield operated in this part of the country. This is not a tourist destination but an industrial and desert location, with an airstrip serving the oil operations rather than any town or community. The surrounding landscape is open desert and gravel plains, in one of the hot, empty interior regions of Oman. Lekhwair is reached by desert roads serving the oilfields and by its airstrip, on operational rather than tourist travel. The climate is hot and extremely dry, with very high summer temperatures and little rainfall.
