SLL is the airport code for Salalah International Airport, serving Salalah, the second city of Oman and the capital of the southern Dhofar region, on the Arabian Sea coast. Salalah is famous for a phenomenon unique in Arabia: the khareef, a summer monsoon that, from around June to September, wraps the surrounding hills in mist and turns the landscape a lush, tropical green, drawing visitors from across the Gulf. The region is also historically the land of frankincense, and its ancient trade sites are a UNESCO World Heritage listing. Salalah offers long beaches, coconut groves, wadis and waterfalls in the green season, and the tomb of the Prophet Job in the hills above. Salalah is reached by flights into its international airport, from Muscat, the Gulf and beyond, and by the coastal and desert roads. The climate is warm and dry most of the year, transformed by the khareef in summer.
