KIH is the airport code for Kish International Airport, on Kish Island, a resort island in the Persian Gulf, off the southern coast of Iran. Kish is a small, low island of coral sand, a short distance from the mainland, and is quite unlike the rest of the country: a free-trade zone developed as a holiday and shopping destination, with resorts, malls and a relaxed, sunny atmosphere. It is known for its warm turquoise sea and coral beaches, for snorkelling and diving on the reefs offshore, and for landmarks such as the rusting Greek shipwreck on the shore and the ancient underground water channels of the Kariz. Kish is reached by air into its international airport, with frequent flights from Tehran and other Iranian cities, and by ferry from the mainland. For any travel to Iran, check current government advice. The climate is hot, best enjoyed in the cooler months from autumn to spring.
