Khujand is the second-largest city of Tajikistan, in the north of the country, in the fertile Fergana Valley on the Syr Darya river, in Central Asia. One of the oldest cities in the region, with a history going back over two thousand years to the time of Alexander the Great, Khujand was an important stop on the Silk Road and remains a green, pleasant city and a major cultural and industrial centre of the north.
