Jeh is a settlement on Ailinglaplap Atoll, in the Ralik, or sunset, chain of the Marshall Islands, in the central Pacific Ocean. Ailinglaplap is a large coral atoll, a ring of low, palm-covered islets around a wide lagoon, one of the more populous of the Marshallese outer atolls, home to a community living traditionally by fishing and growing coconuts and other crops. Jeh is one of the main settlements and airstrips on the atoll, a local centre rather than a tourist destination, of interest for its remote atoll setting and traditional Marshallese culture, in an atoll noted in local lore as a home of navigation and canoe traditions. Jeh is reached by infrequent small aircraft from the capital, Majuro, and by boat, so a visit needs planning. The climate is tropical, warm year-round, and the atoll is very low-lying and vulnerable to the sea.
