Gusap is a locality in the Ramu Valley of Madang Province, in the highlands fringe of Papua New Guinea, best known as the site of a large agricultural estate and airstrip in the fertile valley of the Ramu River. Set in the broad grassland-and-farmland valley between the Finisterre and Bismarck mountain ranges, it is an agricultural and estate area - historically associated with sugar and cattle production on the Ramu plains - rather than a tourist destination. The Ramu Valley is a scenic corridor of rivers, grasslands and mountains linking the Highlands with the Madang coast, and Gusap sits on the route between them. For travellers, it is a working rural locality reached by the Highlands road or by light aircraft. The tropical climate is warm and humid with a marked wet season; the drier months are generally easier for travel along the valley.
