Fincha is a place in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, in the highlands to the northwest of the capital, Addis Ababa. It is best known for the Fincha valley and its large dam and reservoir on the Fincha river, a tributary of the Blue Nile, built for hydroelectric power, and for the sugar estates and plantations of the surrounding fertile highland plain. It lies in a green, high landscape of the western Ethiopian highlands, an agricultural and industrial area rather than a tourist destination, though the wider region has the dramatic scenery of the highlands and gorges of the Blue Nile country. Fincha is reached by roads through the highlands from Addis Ababa and regional towns, and by a nearby airstrip. The climate is mild thanks to the altitude, with a main rainy season in the middle of the year and a drier period.
