Fasa is a city in the south of Iran, in the province of Fars, lying to the southeast of the great city of Shiraz, near the ranges of the Zagros mountains. It is an ancient place, with roots reaching back thousands of years to the Achaemenid and Sasanian eras, when it was one of the more important towns of the region of Fars, the historic heartland of Persia. Today Fasa is above all an agricultural city, set in a fertile district known for its wheat, its citrus fruits, pomegranates and other produce, in a warm, dry inland landscape. It is a working provincial centre rather than a major tourist destination, but it lies within reach of the rich history and culture of Fars. Fasa is reached by road from Shiraz, about a hundred and forty kilometres away, and by its airport. The climate is warm and dry, with hot summers and mild winters.
